Abstract
Penelitian ini membahas tentang identifikasi penyebab kegagalan sistem
rem utama dan rem parkir pada kendaraan barang jenis Mitsubishi L300 yang tidak
lulus uji kendaraan bermotor di Dinas Perhubungan Kabupaten Boyolali.
Kabupaten Boyolali dikenal sebagai salah satu daerah penghasil susu terbesar di
Jawa Tengah, di mana kendaraan barang L300 kerap digunakan untuk distribusi
hasil peternakan seperti susu dan ternak. Tingginya intensitas penggunaan
kendaraan ini memunculkan potensi masalah teknis, khususnya pada sistem rem,
yang menjadi salah satu faktor penyebab kecelakaan lalu lintas.
Penelitian ini menggunakan metode Failure Mode and Effect Analysis
(FMEA) untuk mengidentifikasi jenis kerusakan dan tingkat risikonya melalui
perhitungan Risk Priority Number (RPN), serta Fault Tree Analysis (FTA) untuk
menelusuri akar penyebab kerusakan pada komponen dengan RPN tertinggi. Data
diperoleh melalui observasi langsung, wawancara dengan mekanik dan pemilik
kendaraan, serta dokumentasi komponen rem yang rusak.
Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kerusakan paling dominan meliputi
kebocoran pada seal as roda, aus pada kampas rem, dan kabel rem parkir yang putus
atau macet. Komponen dengan nilai RPN tertinggi yaitu kebocoran pada seal as
roda dianalisis menggunakan metode FTA untuk mengidentifikasi penyebab dasar
kegagalan.
Penelitian ini menghasilkan rekomendasi teknis berupa pemeliharaan
berkala, penggantian komponen sesuai usia pakai, serta peningkatan kesadaran
pemilik kendaraan terhadap pentingnya sistem rem. Hasil penelitian diharapkan
dapat digunakan sebagai referensi bagi pemilik kendaraan, mekanik bengkel, dan
instansi penguji dalam meningkatkan keselamatan dan kelayakan jalan kendaraan
barang, khususnya L300 di wilayah Boyolali.

| Uncontrolled Keywords: | This study investigates the causes of failure in the main brake and parking brake systems on Mitsubishi L300 commercial vehicles, particularly those that failed the roadworthiness test at the Vehicle Testing Section of the Department of Transportation in Boyolali Regency. Boyolali is one of the largest dairy-producing regions in Central Java, where L300 vehicles are frequently used for the distribution of dairy and livestock products. The high frequency of vehicle usage increases the potential for technical failures, especially in braking systems, which are a major factor in road accidents. The research employs the Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA) method to identify types of component damage and assess their risk levels using the Risk Priority Number (RPN). It then applies Fault Tree Analysis (FTA) to trace the root causes of the most critical failure component based on the highest RPN. Primary data were obtained through direct observation, interviews with mechanics and vehicle owners, as well as documentation of component failures. The results show that the most dominant failures include leaking axle seals, worn-out brake pads, and broken or jammed parking brake cables. Components with the highest RPN were further analyzed using FTA to determine the root causes of the failures. This study provides technical recommendations such as scheduled maintenance, timely component replacement, and increased awareness among vehicle owners regarding the importance of brake system reliability. The findings are expected to serve as a reference for vehicle owners, workshops, and inspection authorities to improve the safety and roadworthiness of commercial vehicles, especially the L300 in the Boyolali area.
