Abstract
Based on the results of the Komite Nasional Keselamatan Transportasi
(KNKT) investigation, cases of freight vehicle accidents that occurred in Indonesia
were caused by the failure of the braking process due to overheating. This is because
the Full Hydraulic brake system on the vehicle uses brake fluid as a conductor of
braking force pressure on the braking mechanism from the brake pedal to the
cylinder wheel. Vehicle users need to ensure the condition of the brake fluid is in a
proper condition, by checking the water content in the brake fluid. This study aims
to determine the threshold level of water content as a benchmark for passing vehicle
braking ability. This Experimental Research controls the independent variable,
namely the water content level in the brake fluid to control changes in the dependent
variable, namely the results of measuring the main brake ability of the vehicle using
a Brake Tester with a case study of a 1.2 axle freight car vehicle. The results showed
that the percentage of water content in brake fluid affects the results of the main
brake ability test, at a percentage of <2% water content for axis I and axis II it was
found that the sample vehicle did not pass the brake ability test. The threshold for
the percentage of brake fluid moisture content used based on the results of this study
is a maximum of <1% in the technical requirements test, this result indicates the
vehicle owner to replace the brake fluid according to the DOT standard.

| Uncontrolled Keywords: | Berdasarkan hasil investigasi Komite Nasional Keselamatan Transportasi (KNKT), kasus kecelakaan kendaraan angkutan barang yang terjadi di Indonesia diakibatkan oleh kegagalan proses pengereman karena overheat. Hal ini dikarenakan sistem rem Full Hidraulic pada kendaraan menggunakan minyak rem sebagai penghantar tekanan gaya pengereman pada mekanisme pengereman pada mekanisme pengereman dari pedal rem sampai pada cylinder wheel. Penting untuk pengguna kendaraan memastikan kondisi minyak rem dalam kondisi yang layak, dengan cara melakukan pengecekan kandungan air pada minyak rem. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menentukan ambang batas kadar kandungan air sebagai tolok ukur kelulusan kemampuan pengereman kendaraan. Penelitian Eksperimen ini mengontrol variabel independen yaitu kadar kandungan air pada minyak rem terhadap kontrol perubahan variable dependen yaitu hasil pengukuran kemampuan rem utama kendaraan menggunakan Brake Tester dengan studi kasus yaitu kendaraan mobil barang bersumbu 1.2. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan presentase kadar kandungan air dalam minyak rem mempengaruhi hasil uji kemampuan rem utama, pada presentase kadar kandungan air <2% untuk sumbu I dan sumbu II didapatkan bahwa kendaraan sampel tidak lolos uji kemampuan rem. Ambang batas persentase kadar air minyak rem yang digunakan berdasarkan hasil penelitian ini adalah maksimal <1% pada pengujian persyaratan teknis, hasil ini mengindikasi pemilik kendaraan untuk melakukan penggantian minyak rem sesuai standar DOT kendaraan.
